Dr Alex Wales DVM

After a rural upbringing in Alberta, I attended the University of Alberta for my undergrad and then went on to the University of Saskatchewan where I completed my DVM in 1978.  Since graduation I have been involved in the large animal side of our practice, with the last 20 years or so being nearly exclusively equine practice.  With our hospital and breeding   facilities and ambulatory farm service we are able to look after almost all equine veterinary needs. Personally, I have developed a special interest in lameness, dentistry, reproduction and surgery.  Over the years, a large investment in time and money has been required to attain the knowledge and skills necessary to develop proficiency in my areas of special interest.   This has not been a hardship though, as lifelong learning and continuing education are one of the best parts of being a veterinarian. Horses have always been a huge part of our family's life both at work and play.  Polo is my passion.  I have been playing for over 20 years and have the good fortune to be able to play with my friends and my two grown children.  Along with a love for the game, my appreciation for the things that our equine companions do for us continues to amaze me.  Years of working with horses and riding and training them has only made me keener to try to understand them better.  I find working with the young ones particularly rewarding.  each one teaches me something.  Horses have also allowed me to pursue another passion, mountain riding.  We have some sure footed trail and pack horses that take us up into the high country  for remote pack trips.  There is so much beautiful country in BC and I aim to see as much of it as I can!   A well known saying is "There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man"  I have no doubt about that.

Dr.  Jessica  Wales  DVM

Jessica officially joined the practice in the spring of 2010 following completion of her veterinary degree at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the U of S in Saskatoon.  She has however been involved in the family business her whole life, having grown up helping out in the practice.  Before entering vet school Jessica completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Victoria. She chose veterinary medicine for her love of animals, as well as the challenge of a career filled with variety and lifelong learning. Jessica's veterinary interests include equine and small animal medicine and surgery.  She has a special interest in veterinary ultrasound and works part time for a medical imaging company teaching ultrasound skills to other veterinarians. Outside of veterinary medicine Jessica enjoys playing polo, hockey, snowboarding and the outdoors.  She looks forward to growing with Panorama Veterinary Services and becoming an active member of the community in Lake Country.
